STARGUARD

THE GAME THAT WOULD NOT DIE

STARGUARD, the game is 42 years old as of 2016. It is the very first published science fiction miniature game. It began as a simple skirmish game inspired by the book STARSHIP TROOPERS by Robert A. Heinlein. Since that modest beginning it has grown to a full fledged science fiction skirmish game involving not only jump troops and other interstellar infantry, but tanks, robots and all sorts of futuristic war machines.

STARGUARD is a proven system; tested in thousands of games world wide. The background universe and futuristic science of STARGUARD is particularly believable and entertaining; allowing the players considerable flexibility and opportunity to use their own imaginations.   There are many long time fans who began playing as children who are now teaching their own children this fascinating game.

There are over twenty human and alien groups and races in the STARGUARD universe and it is growing all the time. John McEwan created the first STARGUARD miniatures 42 years ago and it is still going strong. All the races and groups participating in the game are represented with high quality 25mm figures. Many robots, vehicles and support elements are also available. Cut and fold cardstock models of small spaceships, ground vehicles and buildings will help you complete the background of your science fiction universe.

STARGUARD is set in a rich science-fictional universe where humanity has spread to the stars and settled on dozens of worlds. As prophesied since the days before space travel, men met intelligent beings among the stars. Some of these were friendly and cooperative. Others were not. Conflicts weren't limited to battles with strangers: men still fought men over territory, power and wealth. Learn about and help make the history of humanity's exploration of the Orion Arm and its conflicts with the Ralnai, Dreenoi and Eli.

Sorry for posting here, but I have been trying to track down John McEwan to see about possible interview questions regarding the earliest days of the scifi minis hobby. If you receive this message and am interested, would you be so kind as to email me at runequester@icloud.com or reply with an email address where I can reach you?

I tried the tin soldier website but was not able to locate contact information there.
Thank you and again apologies.

I'd love to purchase this but there isnt a single REVIEW anywhere.
I'd love to see John send out review copies to major Wargaming youtubers for free so that he can get some publicity for his game and I can finally see what people think.
I love sci-fi wargaming and the flash gordan style is cool, but i'd love a proper in depth review.

I would really love to see a (detailed) review of 7th edition. I have the 3rd edition, and had the 5th edition and found it quite unplayable as written. Has the 7th edition been completely rewritten and edited to be a playable game that is easy to learn and teach? I love the miniatures and would love to generate interest in this game...but I need a comprehendible game system for that.

I started playing in 1978. Still have all of the Starguard minis I bought back then, plus more purchased through the years.

I just wish I had time to paint them and play!

I first played Star Guard in 1977 at John's shop in Salt Lake City.
Great rules and a lot of fun. Looking forward to buying these when I get home. Are you going to put out the starship game as well?

Hi Gregory: Starship and Starwar 2250 will both be available in rewritten and expanded form before long. Starguard is still expanding.

Thanks John McEwan

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
